Channel 7, Are you kidding me???
March 1, 2008 9:53 pm Student ViewsI turned on the television at 6:24 p.m. on Saturday night to see if the local stations were going to report on the Medaille Lady Mavs basketball AMCC tournament championship, their third in three years.
I started on Channel 2 and they were already done with their sports report, Channel 4 had NCAA basketball coverage on so I landed on Channel 7 where they ended their 6 O’clock sportscast with the Medaille Lady Mavs championship game.
I was surprised to see that they only reported the first half stats and score. The game had been over for more than an hour and they were just reporting the halftime score!!! They added that they would give the final score on the 11 O’clock news.
What the hell is that??? Is Channel 7 testing out a “to be continued feature” on their news. I was always taught that you report the new when it happens. The game was over and the Lady Mavs had indeed won the championship but Channel 7 wanted me to wait five more hours to find out who won on their station.
I just thought this was ridiculous, just like Channel 7 is becoming. They are becoming a joke. They have a bunch of rookies who don’t know what they are doing. I think my crew on The Medaille Magazine could do a better job than some of these rookies. I am not counting Keith Radford or Joanna Pasceri. They are top notch. But other than that, Channel 7 is a joke. And this “to be continued” crap is one of the reasons.
So if you want to know the score and stats of Medaille Lady Mavs championship game then head over to www.medaille.edu right now or wait until the 11 O’clock news on Channel 7.

Just an additional comment: I did happen to catch the Channel 4 sports report. The game was covered, but apparently we are the Medaille Mustangs, because that’s what they referred to us as (even though the first shot was of the “Home of the Mavericks” sign, and subsequent shots showed players who had “MAVERICKS” across their jerseys). How do you mess that up?
