“We do it for a couple different reasons. Primarily we do it for the students. Our goal is to expose our students to as many employment opportunities as possible. To do that we try to bring recruiters, companies, and organizations from every major as much as possible. The students can come can look for a full-time job who are graduating in a month or so, or if they are freshman internship. We also do it for our business partners who are looking for students so they come here, it develops a positive relationship,” Career Planning Employer Relation Coordinator, Ron Beiter said.
One of the media organizations that was present and available for comment about internship and job opportunities was 99.5 FM WDCX.
“For internships we’re looking for people who are motivated in having a career in broadcasting. We don’t just want to be a house for people to come fill up their summer. We want them to go forward in a career in broadcasting,” Brett Larson, 99.5 WDCX Station Manager said.
One of the most important assets that radio stations look for when hiring students out of college are writing skills. It is one of the most important skills to have in the radio industry.
“Right now we have a sales position open. We are looking for someone with a four year degree in communications or business. We are looking for people who are aggressive. One of the primary things that I look for in hiring people are people with good writing skills. To me people coming out of college need to have good writing skills because if you can’t spell things right or can’t put together well structured sentences you are pretty much out in my book, ” Larson said.
WIVB Channel 4 was present but not available for comment. Chris Musial was not able to attend the event.
Other media organizations that were present and offering internships and job opportunities were Eric Mower and Associates
