The rain held off just long enough for the Bisons to get in their 21st home opener in downtown Buffalo. Too bad for the fans, the Bisons couldn’t pull out a victory as they were only able to put up two hits in a lost 4-1 to the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday night.
Bisons’ lefty starter Jeremy Sowers saw his record drop to 0-2 as he gave up three solo home runs to Matt Joyce, Mike Hessman, and Jeff Larish.
“The one thing about all those home runs is that they were solo home runs. As a pitcher I don’t worry about that at all. The Tides are a very aggressive hitting team, they don’t get cheated up there at all,” Sowers said.
The Bisons’ haven’t really been as good offensively than it looked they they would on paper at the beginning of the season. As a team Buffalo is second last in batting after the first week, hitting .228 as a team. Players like Ben Fransisco, Josh Barfield, Ryan Mulhern, Aaron Herr, are all proven hitters at this level as look to help Buffalo at the plate this season.
“It’s easy to say that we could be concerned but I believe in these guys theses guys are proven at this level and beyond and I think its going to get better, I know its going to get better at the end of the season we are going to be a totally different team and looking at this totally different,” Manager Torey Lovullo said.
After Sowers left the game after 6th innings, Reid Santos came in relief and pitched three exceptional innings as he recorded six strikeouts and only gave up two hits.
“Reid did a great job. We’ve been trying to find some innings for him. He got better as his outing progressed. His fastball’s got a little life to it and he’s got some quality secondary stuff. The best part about Reid is that he is unfazed by any situation. He’ll go after his hitters and attack anybody,” Lovullo said.
The Bisons will try to get back on the right track as they play three more games against the Mud Hens finishing up on Monday.

I’m a senior and I’m taking Gen410 and in that class we have discussed Neil Postman and he likes to talk about technology and advices us not to let it take over our lives. He implies that some technology is good but we shouldn’t let it run our lives. We should not become slaves to technology.
He got me thinking and I asked myself the question if I was a slave to technology. I had to answer yes. I am a huge sports fan and I would saw that I am a slave to sports combined with technology. I am always on the internet to find out how my favorite players performed that day or if my team won. I also like to catch games on television or on the radio if need be. I can sit down watch a complete game of baseball, basketball, football, or hockey.
Recently I realized how much a slave I really was to sports and technology when I purchased the MLB.TV package online. This package gives me access to every MLB game for the entire season on my computer.
I think of it this way, if something makes you happy then why not do it. Sports and media are going to me the rest of my life anyway as I push for a career in sports radio or television. Being a slave to technology can be fun especially when you can watch every baseball game all summer long!

I was driving into Medaille on Friday, April 4 at 10 a.m. and I turned on the radio and landed on Z 101.1. A song came on the air and it was “It’s been a while” by Staind and I knew it had the F-word and the S-word in it and I figured that they would play the edited version but when they played the unedited version instead it just through me for a loop. I have never heard either word on the radio in my life.
Z101.1 is a station that is broadcast out of Canada, a country that does not have the FCC, but it is also broadcast out of the United sates as well and we have rules about such words on the air. When I put on the radio I expect certain things and I don’t know how well this will sit with me. I will probably forget about it in a few days but I am just thinking about the children that hear these words on the radio and imitate their favorite bands or celebrities.
Just because you may be able to get away with something , doesn’t make it right.
